About

Building Canada's aerospace industry and the manufacturing base behind it

Who We Are

We know what it's like to need one part, quickly, and to be told it isn't worth a shop's time.

Our shop exists because we needed it ourselves. We were designing engine hardware and kept hitting the same wall: quantities of one, awkward geometry, and a date that had already passed. We'd get quoted six weeks for something we needed in six days, or usually hear nothing back at all. Eventually we stopped asking and started making our own parts.

We have the philosophy that no job is too small or too strange to quote, and we love the variety of parts that move in and out of our doors. One part is a real order, so is a bracket you sketched on the back of something, a replacement for a part nobody makes any more, or a personal project with no company attached to it. We've been the person on the other end of that call, and we remember exactly how it felt to be turned down.

We're a small team of engineers and machine operators in Chilliwack. Most of us came up building hardware rather than quoting it, and a few of us still do both in the same afternoon. It means the person who answers your email is usually the person who ends up running your job, with no sales desk sitting in the middle of the conversation. Working closely with you allows us to understand your needs and intentions better. We are happy to provide feedback that may save you time and money on your prototypes, so your production runs can benefit even more.

Thank you for considering Borealis Manufacturing for your machining and fabricating needs.

How We Work

What working with us looks like

Some of our customers are engineering teams with a full drawing package and a purchase order for 1000 units. Others are one person with a photo of a broken part and a deadline. Both get the same shop and the same adaptive team.

01Send whatever you have

Quoting is free, so send the job over as soon as there is something to look at. STEP and IGES models, SOLIDWORKS and Fusion files, DXF, DWG, or PDF drawings. A sketch with dimensions on it is fine too, and if the only thing that exists is the part itself, bring it in and we'll measure it and model it from there.

02We tell you what's expensive before you commit

Which features are driving the price, where a tolerance is tighter than the function actually needs, what a small change to the geometry would save. Far better to hear it at quote than after the first part comes off the machine.

03We agree a date we can actually hit

Tell us when you need it and we'll be straight about whether it's realistic, rather than agreeing and hoping. Rush and overnight work is normal here, including the call where a machine has failed and the rebuild has to happen tonight.

04Questions get asked, not assumed

If a dimension is ambiguous, stock turns up out of spec, or the part moves once material comes off it, you get a call while there is still time to decide. We would rather stop and ask than hand you something that matches the print and is wrong for the job.

05Finished parts, not just machined ones

Anodized, galvanized, powder coated, painted, or bead blasted. Blasting and tumbling happen in-house and the rest goes through our partners. Either way you deal with us and get one invoice.

06Checked before it ships

Parts are measured against the print before they leave the building, and if something is not right you hear it from us first rather than finding it at your bench. Collect it in Chilliwack or we'll get it on its way to you.
